Review of the New Tippmann Gryphon
I got my hands on Tippmann's new Gryphon paintball gun and had a chance to try it out. Overall, for $70 gun I would say it is decent. It's comfortable to hold and kind of fun to shoot. I was very impressed with how well it did with brittle paint and I didn't manage to break any balls in the barrel which is a common problem with such low-priced guns. The only big problem with the gun that I see is that it is a royal pain to take apart. Not only is there still the Tippmann clamshell design with a bunch of bolts to remove, but there's an extra shroud over the whole thing (the red-colored part is just a shell) that has its own bunch of screws (not bolts) to remove. Basically, if the gun turns out to be unreliable, nobody is going to fix one. But, if the gun turns out to be reliable, the inability of beginner's to open things up and mess things up will be a plus.
